YESHWANTRAO BALWANTRAO CHAVAN
Some men in history seem to have been destined to take up responsibilities of high office in the face of overwhelming odds, when the chances of success seem all too bleak. In a span of sixty years SAHEB had been tried and tested in several crises the country has had to face.
In this section is provided a fine biographical study of an important personality in the political history of India – that of Shri Yashwantrao Chavan. A man of vision and balanced judgment he carved out for himself a niche in the hearts of the people of Maharashtra and India.
As a fearless fighter for national freedom as an astute politician and as a shrewd statement his life and works are truly a source of inspiration to many of us. “KAKA†as we in the family called him was a man of destiny. “SAHEB†as his well wishers and followers called him proved them right.
A stalwart, strongman of and builder of modern Maharashtra he played a major role in the freedom struggle and in State and National Politics. Born on 12th March 1913 at Deorashtra in the now Sangli district of Maharashtra he lost his father in the plague of 1917 and was brought up by his mother Vithabai. He underwent his first punishment and fine for participating in the Non Corporation movement of Mahatma Gandhi in 1930.
I Uday More would like to extend his gratitude and thank the members of the immediate, extended family and friends of the Late Shri Yeshwantrao Chavan for their inputs and help in setting up this section.
