Venutai Chavan born on 02nd of February was my father’s eldest sister. She was the pillar of strength to all in the family as well as the extended family of her husband Shri Yeshwantrao Chavan whom she married at Phaltan on 02nd June 1942.
Mrs. Venutai Chavan wife of Eighth Finance Commission Chairman and Former Dy Prime Minister of India Yshwantrao B Chavan died in New Delhi on the morning of 1st June 1983 after a brief illness. She was 57. Her illness started a week ago with breathing trouble. Besides Mr. Chavan her brother Mr. Babasaheb More and other close relatives were present when she died. The Chavans had no children.
Although she had kept herself away from active politics Mrs. Chavan was imprisoned during the 1942 Quit India Movement.
“We were to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary tomorrow’ Mr. Chavan said.
A large number of politicians belonging to various parties visited Mr. Chavan’s residence to convey their condolences.
